The Unknowledge Pattern Language
Unknowledge Patterns describe ways of talking about that which is
unknown. For example, the discovery of the periodic table of the
elements created a pattern of information about what we didn't know
about the elements, until we "filled in the blanks." These "named
voids" in our knowledge were powerful attractors, and shaped the
discourse of science. Are there other ways of naming voids which shape
our discovery? The discovery of zero, a "missing nothing," was one of
the turning points in Western thought. Are there other missing nothings
lurking about, waiting to be discovered? If so, how do we name these
voids, and to what end? This is the stuff of unknowledge management.
- Tapestry
-
- Intrinsic
- A scale-independent property
- Adjacent Possible
- That portion of the void which is knowable via the named voids already inside the known space.
- ProtoSpace
- The combination of the known space and the void.
- Malgnosis
- A way of knowing based on what is wrong or failing.
- Void
- Self Discovery
-
- Linguistic Shell
- Diachronic
- A perspective based on the flow of time
- ProtoSpace Browser
- A means of viewing a space, based on a perspective of a browser which is able to apply different garment to
the objects under view.
- Benegnosis
- A way of knowing based on what is positive or strong
- Named Void
- Known Space
- Unknowledge Pool
- The is a collection of the NamedVoids which have been created in WITTy conversation, representing expressions of those things which are unknown. Pattern weavers may use this pool to find MissingNothings which can then be used to create or refine patterns. Significant NamedVoids may be collected into a Tapestry, showing the interplay of that which is known and that which is unknown.
- Expected Properties
- Scale Free Space
- A space in which connectivity between elements (points) is not constant. Some points may be highly interconnected,
while others are less connected, according to a power law.
- Stuff
- That which is in the known space, including the Named Voids which link to the unknown
- Expectation Failure
- Synchronic
- A perspective based on a snapshot in time
- Autocatalytic Space
- A space which has the property that adding more stuff creates a larger adjecent possible void.
- Stacked Scales
- A perspective of looking at a system along a continuum of scales, for example, looking at health
from the perspective of the molecule, gene, cell, organ, immune system, person, family, community, nation, species.
- Unknowledge Loop
- The process of growing a space by filling named voids, which in turn create more named voids.
